Labourer falls from goods carrier dies
CALANGUTE: A labourer died of head injuries after he fell off a products carrier at Saligao on Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the auto has been arrested.
According to Calangute police, the incident took place at around 1.40pm at Grand Morod in Saligao, as a result of rash driving by Vinay Baburao Mandrekar. While the driver was negotiating a curve to go in the direction of Nagoa, the provider section of the pick-up fell on the road and a labourer, Laku Tolu Chawan, who was sitting within the carrier fell off, suffering really serious head injuries.
Chawan, a native of Karnataka, residing at Arradi in Candolim, was rushed to the district medical center at Mapusa, but breathed his past on the way.
The driver, a resident of Colvale, was arrested underneath Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code and later released on bail.
