Officials suspect that all three are hiding abroad. <br><br>DRI officials are also probing if the racket operated by Shahbaz had links with TK Faiz, the kingpin in the Nedumbassery gold smuggling case. "As of now we don't have any solid links connecting the two, but we are not ruling out the possibility as the accused are all from the same locality, lead flashy lifestyles and followed the same modus operandi-using women as carriers," an official said. <br><br>Officials said that Shahbaz is suspected to be the kingpin and he along with Abu Laiz had channelled money made from smuggling operations into substantial investments in a number of businesses in Dubai and Kerala. DRI is in the process of tracing the investments made by the operators which an official said were of staggering proportions. <br><br>According to sources, Rahila was also Shahbaz's [http://Britannica.com/search?query=manager manager]. "She is a well-qualified management professional and has been handling his company accounts even while taking up assignments as an independent SAP consultant," an official said.
