Labourer falls from merchandise provider dies
CALANGUTE: A labourer died of head injuries immediately after he fell off a merchandise provider at Saligao on Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the car or truck has been arrested.
According to Calangute police, the incident took place at all over 1.40pm at Grand Morod in Saligao, as a result of rash driving by Vinay Baburao Mandrekar. While the driver was negotiating a curve to go to Nagoa, the carrier section of the select-up fell on the road and a labourer, Laku Tolu Chawan, who was sitting down inside the provider fell off, suffering significant head injuries.
Chawan, a native of Karnataka, residing at Arradi in Candolim, was rushed to the district hospital at Mapusa, but breathed his previous on the way.
The driver, a resident of Colvale, was arrested less than Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code and later introduced on bail.
